Lineage and Honors
Lineage:

1916 - Constituted 1 July as 36th Infantry, Regular Army; organized 27 July at Brownsville, TX

1918 - Assigned 5 July to 12th Division

1919 - Relieved 31 January from assignment to 12th Division.

1921 - Inactivated 12 October at Fort Jay, NY.

1923 - Assigned 24 March to 9th Division.

1940 - Relieved 1 August from assignment to 9th Division.

1941 - Activated 15 April at Camp Beauregard, LA as 36th Infantry (Armored), an element of 3d Armored Division.

1942 - Redesignated 1 January as 36th Armored Infantry.

1945 - Inactivated 10 November in Germany.

1947 - Broken up 7 July and redesignated as elements of the 3d Armored Division as follows:  1st Battalion formed 36th Armored Infantry Battalion; 2d Battalion formed 37th Armored Infantry Battalion; 3d Battalion formed 13th Armored Infantry Battalion; and Battalions activated 15 July at Fort Knox, KY

1957  The 36th, 37th, and 13th Armored Infantry Battalions relieved 1 October from assignment to 3d Armored Division, consolidated to form 36th Infantry, a parent regiment under CARS.
